The Club History
Solent Bonsai Society was founded in 1978 when a few
enthusiasts met in a Fareham pub and agreed to start the Society. We now
have over sixty members.
The objects of the Society are:-
1 To inspire and encourage club members at all levels
in the art and cultivation
techniques of Bonsai.
2 To promote public awareness of Bonsai through shows
and exhibitions.
3 To bring Bonsai enthusiasts together in friendly
association for the benefit of all.
Anyone interested is welcome to attend a meeting and bring trees for
advice. At such meetings we provide the opportunity of joining other
Bonsai enthusiasts in friendly informality with talks, films and visits
by guest speakers.
There are regular practical workshops and demonstrations and additional
sessions are held in the Spring to coincide with the busy re-potting
period.
The Society has a comprehensive library of Bonsai books and related
subjects. Members may borrow books and magazines for a small monthly
fee. Visits to specialist nurseries, Bonsai shows and other places of
interest are arranged.
We hold our own exhibitions each year and provide displays at several
other venues during the Summer including Broadlands Flower Show, Newbury
Show and Hilliers Gardens and Arboretum, Romsey. Hants.
The Solent Bonsai Society magazine is published quarterly and is free to
members.
Members are also offered discounts at specialists Nurseries. Trees, pots
and equipment are available through Dai-ichi Bonsai at Club meetings.
The Society meets on the last Friday in each month except December at
7.30 pm at Wallington Village Hall, Wallington, Fareham, Hants. The hall
is almost opposite Sainsburys Supermarket, Broadcut, Fareham. There is
ample parking immediately adjacent to the hall.
